The Pilates equipment works several muscle groups simultaneously through smooth, continuous motion, with a particular concentration on strengthening and stabilizing the core.
The equipment adds resistance and challenges stability with dynamic stretching exercises. It builds on the intensity and complexity of mat exercises. The resistance in these advanced exercises develops cardiovascular capacity, core strength and balance.
The equipment would be a good place to start if you are having difficulty with the mat exercises. However, it can also take an advanced student to the next level with a challenging and creative workout. Private training on the equipment will put your core strength to the test in addition to increasing your full range of motion.
The focus in Pilates is on quality of movement rather than quantity, which makes one feel invigorated rather than exhausted after a session. Pilates takes a balanced approach so that no muscle group is overworked and the body works as an efficient, holistic system in sport and daily activity.
At Yin, the instructor is thoroughly and professionally trained in the STOTT PILATES® method and can tailor a Pilates program to meet individual needs and abilities, monitoring movements to ensure correct form for optimum results.
STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates. Co-founders Moira and Lindsay G. Merrithew, along with a team of physical therapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals, have spent more than two decades refining the STOTT PILATES method of exercise and equipment. This resulted in the inclusion of modern principles of exercise science and spinal rehabilitation, making it one of the safest and effective methods available. This clear and detailed approach forms the basis for STOTT PILATES training and certification programs.
